It’s that wonderful time once more: the smell of pine fills the air and the houses begin to sparkle with Christmas cheer. With Thanksgiving and Black Friday come and gone the Christmas spirit has begun to really show. As the turkey is finished and pumpkins put away, everyone sees their neighbors and family members prepare for the annual Christmas traditions.
Some students get ready to return to those elaborate Christmas sweaters everyone knows so well. Families begin to send out the family pictures that they prepare smiles for all year. With some of these traditional photos are letters to inform their loved ones of their eventful year. Some people initially cringe at the thought, but soon admit it just wouldn’t be Christmas for them without all these family events that lead up to that wonderful day.
Others get ready to board planes and boats for planned family vacations, in which the family gets not only a break from school and jobs, but also from their everyday life, and gets to focus more on just their family and them being together for the holidays. Sometimes these trips take families far away from their homes to places one doesn’t normally get to see every day as they embark on a new adventure together. Other trips take the family to a certain family member’s home in which family gathers every year to celebrate good company.
However, for most individuals the Christmas traditions start at home. They look forward to the unwrapping of ornaments, as the cherished memories of decorating the tree dance in the memory. The smell of the tree being put up in the living room, as the garland is hung and songs of Christmas yuletide played. Individuals get ready to sing songs of great tidings and share a Christmas feast with our loved ones. However, as the years pass, there may be loved ones lost along the way and we continue our traditions honoring them as their spirit partakes in the holidays with us. So as the classes and tests wrap up from The Lions’ Pride to you and your loved ones: Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and a Happy New Year.
