Christmas Spirit

Have a Whitman Moment

Does anyone notice the morning color of green on the palm fronds? The color that seems to yawn and celebrate the season within the grass. Does anyone notice the different hues in the blues of Ms. Jovita? On windy days, she seems to aspire to be an ocean. Sometimes, she becomes a murky gray, like a cranky college student with a paper due the next morning and has only written two sentences.

Brain Food for Finals

Finals are nearing, and that means students are stocking up on caffeinated drinks and sugary junk food to help them get through the long nights that frequently involve little to no sleep. Students make these last-ditch efforts in an attempt to improve their studying and memory retention: however, there have been other solutions found to the study retention problems that do not include stuffing yourself with unnecessary junk.  There are lists that researches have complied that fill the whole spectrum for all types of individuals.

Full Scholarship Student Athletes May Receive Full Cost of Attendance

On Oct. 27 the NCAA Division I Board of Directors voted on a few proposals that will allow each conference to make the decision on whether or not its member institutions can increase the student-athlete scholarship package to include the full cost of attendance. The proposal also includes the possibilities of multi-year scholarships as well as making the academic standards tougher on student athletes.  After the proposals were accepted NCAA president Mark Emmert said, “It was one of the most aggressive and fullest agendas the board has ever faced.” They moved with dispatch on it, and I think they’re taking positive steps for schools and student-athletes” (Associated Press).

Saint Leo Honors Strong Ties with Military

Saint Leo University plays a major in helping soldiers by offering distance learning and online classes to military personnel around the United States. The university honored these soldiers, as well as veterans, active service members, and military families, in a Veterans Day ceremony on Friday, November 11, in the Greenfelder-Denlinger boardrooms.

Writer and Filmmaker Diane Glancy Enlightens Saint Leo

Saint Leo University was fortunate enough to have award-winning writer Diane Glancy on campus from Monday, November 7 to Wednesday, November 9. The prolific writer, who has authored a number of short stories, novels, plays, collections, and poems, spoke to classes, read from some of her works, and held a screening of her first full-length film, The Dome of Heaven.

Men’s and Women’s Basketball Season Off to a Strong Start

The Saint Leo Lions Men’s and Women’s basketball teams opened up their seasons on Friday, November 11, and both came away with impressive wins. The women’s team started the night off with a 5 o’clock tip off time. In the first of two head coaching debuts, Nikki Jesse and her team were able to defeat the visiting West Florida Argonauts by a score of 63-56.
